Need a photographer for Otakon?

Posted on

Hey guys! I know some of you may be heading to Otakon this weekend, and if you’re searching for a photographer to work with in these last few days, I must direct you to this post: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=296734 on cosplay.com. Mimi of ChezPhoto shot my Garnet cosplay at this past Anime Boston, and she does really beautiful cosplay/non-cosplay photography that is definitely worth the place. She’s also a cool person, helpful at giving posing directions, and enthusiastic. If you are looking for someone, I definitely throw you all enthusiastically her way.

I’m on vacation so I’ll try to start catching up on the cosplay meme and some things I have going on soon!

30 Days of Cosplay: Day 8

Posted on

8. Cosplay plans for the rest of the year.

1. Zelda (Skyloft pink dress) – The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
2.
Terra Branford (blue alternate outfit) – Final Fantasy: Dissidia Duodecim
3.  Terra Branford (original Amano) – Fianl Fantasy VI
4.
Asami – The Legend of Korra
5. Princess Zelda – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Not all of these will be done this year, but I’ll be working on them all at some point for the rest of the year. Skyloft Zelda, Asami, and blue Terra will probably be done this year, but normal Terra is for next year. Twilight Princess Zelda has no real deadline, I’m just working on her now and then.

Please Support This Cosplay Photobook Project

Okay, so I know I got really behind on the cosplay challenge I’ve been doing, and I swear I’ll try and get back to it tomorrow! But today I want to make a post about a cosplay photobook project that I encourage all of you to support any way that you can.

Breaking All the Rules: Cosplay and the Art of Self-Expression is, as creator Ger Tysk describes it, “A photobook project to document one of the most visible elements of geek culture across the USA in interviews and full-color photographs.” Does this sound awesome to you yet? I definitely want this to happen, and I’m sure many other people do too. Not only will Ger’s book have photos in it, but she want to focus on WHY we all do this, and how our lives have become better for it. Ger is passionate about this project because she is so passionate about cosplay. And Ger definitely knows what she’s doing, she’s an excellent cosplayer, photographer, and makes some seriously amazing props and I know she will make this book look and be wonderful.

The website for Breaking All the Rules is located here and from there you can find the IndieGogo fundraiser and Facebook pages. I encourage you to donate anything you can to help Ger out!

30 Days of Cosplay: Day 7

Posted on

I knew I missed a couple days, but not four of them… well, I’ll start picking it up from here with Day 7!

7. The character you have cosplayed that is most similar to you (if none that you have cosplayed, then one that you will cosplay)

I don’t really know, but I guess I’m a bit like Garnet. A couple years ago, even a bit now, I was very self-depreciating and thought everything was my fault and I was always apologizing even if I didn’t think I was in the wrong, but just because I felt like it was my fault. But, just like Garnet, I learned to relax a bit, not bend to everyone else’s whim and becoming more comfortable with myself. We’ll see if I cut off my butt length hair like she does, but I wouldn’t count on it!

30 Days of Cosplay: Day 6

Day 6. Your favourite cosplay (that you have done)

My favorite is usually going to be the most recent one I have completed. When you spend so much time on one thing, it sort of gets put up on a pedestal in your mind. So right now my favorite is Garnet. What else can I say about this costume that hasn’t already been said? I put so much effort into it, and I’d like to think that it paid off nicely. The dress was one of my dreams, and to have it done at last after thinking about it for so many years just feels incredible. I put everything I had into that dress. I can’t wait until I inevitably remake it in a few years after I have learned a lot more.

5. Blatant self plug! Link us to your cosplay page, be it dA, ACP, Coscom, whatever!

Both my cosplay.com and dA pages are links in my sidebar. I don’t really use ACP, and I’ve more active on dA. I occasionally post pictures to my Tumblr, but it’s more for in-progress things.

30 Days of Cosplay: Day 4

Posted on

I missed a day yesterday, so two posts today to make up for that. I had everything typed and ready by my Internet was giving me more trouble than it is actually worth, so I rage quit on it.

Day 4: Your cosplay communities, where do you go to talk about cosplay?

Mostly cosplay.com, just because if I’m talking about it I’m usually asking for help or suggestions on how to do a certain piece, or giving advice on something I’ve done. The forums on cosplay.com are really great for doing things like that. I also talk a bit about things I’m currently working on with my Twitter. I use DeviantArt mostly for posting photos and commenting on other people’s photos, but not really to talk about it. And finally, every once in a while I talk about what I’m doing on my Tumblr.

Oh, and obviously I go to conventions and try to talk to people about cosplay there :)
